Thanks to a partnership between Alegría Fresh and Orange County Produce, LLC, the residents of Laguna Beach will soon enjoy fresh, naturally-grown vegetables without the commitment of a backyard garden. For $35, a customizable box of fresh produce that weighs in just over 12 pounds can be delivered to your home. The produce is picked locally within 24 hours of delivery. Although the two businesses have teamed up, they each have well-established reputations within the Laguna Beach community. Alegría Farm, a hydroponic vertical farm (an innovative approach to growing herbs, vegetables, sprouted seeds and microgreens that uses less land, water and fertilizer), employs coconut fibers instead of soil to eliminate pesticides. Orange County Produce, one of the area’s oldest farming companies, is run by two third-generation growers, A.G. and Matthew Kawamura, whose mission is to revolutionize food through education about nutrition and urban farming.
